United Way of Greater Mercer County (UWGMC) is being recognized for its outstanding efforts serving the Mercer County community. The Children’s Home Society and Kidsbridge recently announced that UWGMC has been named the recipient of the 2024 Kidsbridge C.A.R.E.S. Humanitarian Award and will be honored on September 12 at The Stone Terrace by John Henry’s, Hamilton.
Since 2017, UWGMC has partnered with Kidsbridge to provide their students with Anti-bullying kits. A kit includes the book, The Juice Box Bully: Empowering Kids to Stand Up for Others by Bob Sornson, and supplemental activities materials that teach the importance of being an “upstander” against bullying. It also reinforces the important lessons around tolerance and understanding. To date, UWGMC has provided 1,333 kits to students who complete the Kidsbridge curriculum.
The partnership is in line with UWGMC’s ethos around equity and inclusivity to give a voice and provide access to under-resourced and marginalized communities. As well as provide a future with great social and economic equality and creating a world where everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, and diverse background, can create and have the life they imagine. This makes a strong, equitable, and thriving community.
United Way President and CEO Sandra Toussaint said, “Our staff and board are honored to receive this award. We have been a part of the Mercer County community for more than 80 years and are committed to addressing the needs and issues affecting our community.”
