Our work in the community includes building the capacity of local nonprofits. We were delighted to connect our partner, TDI Connect (TDI), to Mercer County Community College (MCCC). They received a donation of 1,800 computers that can be refurbished and given to families in our community.
Also, UWGMC provided grant writing assistance to TDI, and they were awarded a $10,000 grant from Comcast. The grant will support Shiloh CDC students to receive coding classes from BSD Education. Students will develop the confidence and skills needed for today’s technology-driven job market. They will also be provided with a refurbished computer that they can use at home.
Mark Iorio, Chairman of the TDI Connect Advisory Committee, spoke about the importance of receiving the Comcast grant, "the TDI connect team is beyond grateful that Comcast stepped up to provide a grant to help youth in Trenton. Students will learn how to write code and prepare themselves for a wonderful future. As a result of the grant, we were able to bring together three organizations, TDI connect, Shiloh CDC, and BSD Education. Each organization will have a role and responsibility to uphold the requirements of the grant. TDI connect will provide computers to the students, Shiloh CDC will provide the educational platform and recruit the students, and BSD Education will provide the curriculum to teach each student how to code."
